Everglades Wonder Gardens
27180 Old U.S. 41

The address of this historic park belies the fact that the place opened back in 1936, at a time when roadside attractions still stirred the imagination of the nation – especially when they featured the exotic curiosities foreign to those who’d grown up far from southern Florida. The initial purpose of the Everglades Wonder Gardens was to care for injured wildlife. It evolved into a walk down the gulf shore’s historical lane and still today visitors can learn about and marvel at alligators, panthers, bears, deer, and exotic birds as well as discover the story of the area’s original native inhabitants, the Calusa Indians.
